What happened?
He had an accident while riding his motor-cross bike at Airway Heights in Tri-cities Wa.
When did it happen?
April 24, 2026
What were his injuries?
He has a C3 incomplete spinal injury
He has spinal cord contusions (bruising) from C3-C7
What does that mean?
At this time he is unable to move or feel anything below his mid-chest area and he has decreased mobility and sensation in both of his arms. He is not able to use his fingers/fine motor skills at this time and is dependent on just a few muscle groups to move his arms.
Did he have to have surgery?
Yes, he had two major surgeries while at Kadlec medical center ICU.
The first was to replace/repair the C3 vertebrae and the second was to stabilize, fuse, and release pressure around C5-7.
Will he regain movement in his arms and legs?
The hard part about spinal injuries is the unpredictability of the recovery. When the spine is compressed, bruised, or injured in any way it can be many months before you know what full recovery will look like.
He is still in the early recovery phase of spinal shock and is actively working on rehab to optimize his chances of full recovery.
We are confident that Jesus is holding the future and whatever it holds He will be beside us every step of the way.
What has his recovery looked like so far?
Right after the accident, he was transported to Kadlec Medical center, ICU where he stayed 2 weeks to stabilize his neck and manage his other critical injuries.
He was transferred to the St. Luke's Spinal Rehab Center in Spokane, Wa. after that and was there almost a month.
On June 3rd, he was transferred to the VA Spinal Rehab Center in Seattle Wa. which is where he is now.
He is praying to be able to go home around the end of August if we can remodel his house and make it safe and possible for him to be home.
What are the barriers that need to be overcome for him to come home?
There are two main barriers: 1) Home remodel, 2) Wheelchair accessible transportation.
Home Remodel-
In order for Glenn to come home there needs to be some significant remodeling done to his home. After consultations and much review here are a few things that need to be done to the house in order for him to come home: A weight-bearing wall needs to be taken out in order for two rooms to be enlarged. Doors need to be widened. Overhead lift with tract will need to be installed. Bathroom created in the new space for easy access. New flooring for the wheelchair. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Accessible Transportation-
Glenn is actively working on this as it is not as simple of going down and buying a big van! The vehicle has to meet certain specifications for the size of his chairs among many other things. He is working with the VA to figure out his options but is anxious to get this resolved as he will have lots of rehab appointments to get to when he gets home!
Doesn't the VA give you money to do the home remodel and/or provide a vehicle for him?
We are very grateful for the assistance Glenn is getting from the VA. However, it is very important to know that not every veteran receives the same amount of benefits. Each individual qualifies based on specific criteria so no one case is the same as another.
Glenn will received his medical equipment (basic wheelchair, the overhead lift, etc.) and adaptive devices he will need.
He does NOT received assistance with placing that equipment into the home (installing the overhead lift, etc.) or modifying his home for his new needs.
Does he have family support during this time?
Glenn's family has not left his side during this time. We are so thankful he is here and are here with him every step of the way!
His wife, Colleen, his daughter's Stacie and Stephanie and his sons in law, Eric and Eli along with his 97 year old father and his grandkids are here to help however we can and cheer him one. We are so thankful for the example of faith in Jesus he shows us every day.
